24 hours of Le Mans
The centennial edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race celebrating endurance and motor racing excellence, will be held on June 10 and 11. Rolex has been the Official Watch of this legendary event since 2001.
A century of legendary races
Created in 1923, the 24 Hours of Le Mans race is one of the oldest and most prestigious automobile races in the world. This competition tests both the reliability of the cars and the physical and mental endurance of the drivers, and attracts some of the best-known names in motorsport. Sixty-two teams, each composed of three drivers, meet at the 13.6 km long Circuit de la Sarthe in northwest France and compete in cars divided into three categories of prototype and Grand Tourisme vehicles. The victory goes to the team that has covered the greatest distance – which can reach around 5300 km – in 24 hours. Rolex has been an Official Watch sponsor of the race since 2001.
100 years of innovation
Since its first edition, the mythical event has been an ideal ground for testing the many technological advances in motor racing. Experimentation with a new road surface from 1922 – still viable today – safety, motorization and aerodynamics, but also the exclusive use from 2022 of a 100% renewable biofuel, are some of the advances that mark a century of progress in this legendary endurance race.
Tom Kristensen: “Monsieur Le Mans”.
Tom Kristensen has earned his nickname. The most successful driver in the history of the legendary race, he won it a record nine times, starting with his debut in 1997. Rolex testimonial since 2010, the Danish racing driver was champion in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2013 and, a decade later, is the ambassador of the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “A victory at Le Mans will stay with you forever.
