HISTORY OF EL CRONÓMETRO

Our unique establishments are an essential reference point in Seville’s traditional landscape. Founded in 1901, it boasts a family tradition spanning six generations. The company’s journey began in the Levante region. The main office was in Gandía, with a branch in Alcoy. The grandfather of the current owners of El Cronómetro arrived in Seville due to various circumstances and secured one of the city’s best commercial locations, which is now the headquarters of the watchmaking business.

The Sanchís family, owners of the company, were concerned from the outset with maintaining the original image of the premises. Since 1901, the appearance of the establishment has not changed much; initially, there was only one clock on the facade, now there are six.

El Cronómetro also has an industrial watchmaking department that has contributed to the design of the monumental Water Clock, installed in the lake of La Cartuja Island, and the restoration of the clock that, since the 18th century, guided the prayers of the monks who inhabited The Monastery of La Cartuja.

In short, El Cronómetro is one of Seville’s most traditional establishments. It possesses antique and unique pieces that will soon form part of the museum that the premises will house, featuring items rescued from the splendid watch collection owned by its founder.

Among its distinguished clientele are the most select families of Andalusia and members of the Royal Family.
